Why Volunteer?
Thinking of Volunteering? But don't know where to start?
People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, have fun or make a difference. Some people just have a good heart and enjoy helping others or giving back to society for their good fortune, others may volunteer to gain skills or work experience. Some want to make the world a better place. Some are completely devoted to the cause, while others simply wish to do their bit where they can.
Firstly think about the sort of thing you would like to do. If you have a particular skill, a particular passion, a particular hobbie, there is often a volunteering role that can use any or all of the above. Or go for something completely different, even take yourself out of your comfort zone! Do you want to use your work skills, or do you want to get down and dirty at grass roots level - literally in some cases! Do you want to work with the elderly, with children, with poorly people, with animals, there is something to suit everyone in the voluntary sector. You can help day times, evenings and weekends, and quite often you can choose your time commitment.
